What To Expect On A Pub History Walk

What the walks cover, how pubs fit in, and what a day out with Vinnie Sullivan feels like.

What The Tours Cover

The Pub and History tours on this website, and across social media, cover its architecture, its cultural traits, and, of course, its unique public houses. We journey into a great many epochs whilst discussing all from law, to war. I like to think these outings aren't just a tour, but an informative, and enjoyable day out.

Types Of Tours

Some of my tours are topical, others are based on the study of specific areas. Some have no pubs whatsoever and are more similar to regular tours — when that's the case, it will be stated in the tour's description.

Daytrips

Many people go out for the day without any real idea of where they're going. Our daytrips guide you to the most interesting places and the best views, so time that might have been wasted figuring out where to go is instead spent in photogenic, interesting, educational, and enjoyable locations.

History Tours — Pub And History Tours

Though pubs are a common theme on my tours, they're only part of the experience. Some are simply pit stops for a rest; others matter for one of many reasons. Our public houses are heavily entwined with British and Irish history — from courtrooms, or revolutions, they've seen it all. For closer to a thousand years, the only two places the common people gathered were churches or pubs, the focal point for much of what went on within our green and pleasant lands. I'd go as far as to say a great deal more has happened in, or as a result of our pubs than any government building. If you'd like to learn about our past and the social and cultural significance of Britain's pubs, I hope you'll join us as we delve into them across the country.

Stops Along The Way

Between walking and talking, we tend to stop in two or three pubs which may or may not be relevant to the tour itself. Sometimes they're integral; sometimes they're simply a good place for a moment to yourself. My group tours can go on for a few hours, so it's best to break them up with short rests. If you do not drink, this isn't a problem — simply have a glass of water or whatever else takes your fancy.
